On Thursday, March 9th, Georgia Pre-K Week 2017 was officially announced at the Georgia State Capitol with DECAL’s mascot, CALi, and the inaugural Pre-K Teachers of the Year, Connie Ellington and Channie Frazier! The seventh annual Georgia Pre-K Week is scheduled for October 2-6, 2017. During the launch event, CALi wandered the halls of the Capitol passing out cookies and taking pictures with admirers to get everyone excited to participate in October!
As part of the launch, every legislator received a copy of “Russell the Sheep” generously donated by the Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy and a copy of this year’s official Pre-K Week book and a childhood favorite of many, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle generously donated by Reach Out to Read Georgia in partnership with All About Books.
What is Georgia Pre-K Week? Pre-K Week is a weeklong celebration of Georgia’s Pre-K Program and other quality early education programs in Georgia. During this week, leaders from across the state get to experience first hand the quality learning that takes place in classrooms across the state. Leaders visit Pre-K classrooms, read books to students, and sometimes even participate in that day’s activities!
Who participates in Georgia Pre-K Week? Governor & First Lady Deal, state legislators, Congressmen, commissioners, school board members, businessmen, mayors, councilmen and other community leaders have all visited Pre-K centers during Georgia Pre-K Week. One representative has described it as “my favorite part about being a legislator!” Click here for a recap of who participated in Pre-K Week 2016.
