Barriers Georgia Kids Face In Healthcare Programs

Georgia has the seventh highest rate of uninsured children in the country. The problem is especially severe in low-income communities. The report from Voices of Georgia’s Children shows 80 percent of Georgia children who were eligible for medicaid or Peachcare in 2016 weren’t enrolled.

Dr. Erica Fener Sitkoff, Executive Director of Voices, sat down with host of “On Second Thought,” Virginia Prescott, and editor of Georgia Health News, Andy Miller to discuss the barriers Georgians face.

Another reason kids don’t see doctors as often as they should is also a factor for adults: access. It isn’t just the cost of healthcare, but the lack of physicians, especially in rural Georgia.
