Voices honors the Georgia Department of Education
This year, we will be honoring the Georgia Department of Education for their Whole Child approach to education, including restructuring of the agenda and launch of new departments to support that approach. Did you know that the top two causes of student absence are asthma and unattended oral health needs? Or that more than 40% of children 3-17 have trouble accessing the mental health treatment and counseling they need? The Georgia Department of Education has successfully trained staff in over 1,300 schools in Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports and over 21,000 school personnel in mental health and trauma awareness. This is just a sample of the incredible action underway. As our state commits to all of Georgia’s children having a solid start in life, healthy minds and bodies, fair treatment, and access to enrichment beyond the classroom, Voices is honored to highlight the Whole Child approach the Department of Education is taking to help our children thrive.
